Oto Jinja Shrine

Oto-jinja shrine

The Deity Enshrined
Amano-tajikarao-no-mikoto [who was strong enough to open the door of the Iwaya (cave) behind which Amaterasu-Omikami (the Sun God) hid herself in a rage against the mischief done by her brother Yamatotakeruno-mikoto, and thus his powerful action enabled the goddess to radiate a flood of sunshine all over the world again.]

This shrine had the ties of brotherhood with Katori-Jingu until Edo era. There are three old masks preserved in here, such as the mask of Raryo-o with the inscription on it of March, 1328 (March in the 3rd year of Kareki), the mask of Nasori and one more mask.

An old mirror of bronze and some scrolls of old documents are designated as tangible cultural assets by the prefectural government.

It is famous for the annual festival on April 7 and the flower festival on January 14-16.
